Engaging with our customers on climate change
During 2021 we engaged our customers through a series of webinars in order to develop our new build standards, focusing on sustainability and place shaping. Shortly we will be consulting with customers on how we engage on the retrofit agenda and seeking their views on broader environmental aspirations.
Our resident scrutiny group has reviewed our approach to sustainability, making a number of recommendations which will support Abri to reduce fuel poverty and deliver carbon reductions.
Preparing for the possible effects of adverse climate change
As well as tackling our carbon footprint, adapting to a changing climate will be a key area of focus for Abri, flooding and overheating are direct consequences of climate change. Abri is developing a new design brief that prioritises sites outside of floodplains and requires schemes to be developed in accordance with the four pillars of SUDS, ensuring attenuation of any rainwater run-off and ensuring the water run-off is reduced to mitigate further local flooding impact.
Abri is exploring geospatial software to accurately map the current risk of flooding and overheating for existing homes, as well mapping risk based on the long-term trajectory of climate change.
